Yves Saint Laurent

Kristin Scott Thomas and Diane Kruger wearing the same blue YSL dress

Kristin Scott Thomas debuted this divine YSL two-tone dress when she attended the BAFTA Awards last month. The nominated actress accessorized with a simple black box clutch and a black shawl to brave London’s fitful weather.

Diane Kruger wore the same gown yesterday at The Metropolitan Opera’s 125th Anniversary Gala looking equally gorgeous. The fashion savvy actress finished off her look with an elegant updo and a black box clutch that looked almost the same Kristin wore.

For two times in a row, this is a very tough decision as both look women look absolutely stunning in this dress. The black embroidered bodice and the cobalt blue silk skirt are just gorgeous. Eventually, I will give this one to Diane, simply because I prefer the dress without the black shawl (I know this is a bit unfair because it was freezing that night in London).

Ciara Rocks YSL Spring 2009 Cage Heels

by Profashionelle on March 12, 2009 · 1 comment

When I first saw YSL’s caged heels that have been presented on the runway of the Spring 2009 RTW collection, I was wondering which celebrity would have the guts to wear these on the red carpet. My initial guesses were Roisin Murphy or Tilda Swinton. Oh how wrong I was!

Ciara wearing YSL Spring 2009 Cage Heels & Belt at the Premiere of Class of 3000

Rating: ★★★★½

I was floored when I saw Ciara wearing the caged heels and matching grid belt with a short black jumpsuit at the premiere of Andre 3000′s stage play “Class of 3000“. The singer looked head-to-toe gorgeous. It’s so refreshing to see a celebrity wearing something totally unexpected on the red carpet.

I know it may come off derogatory, but the R&B/Soul music department isn’t particularly known for their fashion choices. That’s why I believe that Ciara is a true fashionista at heart (or maybe she just has a great stylist). The singer has shown us she knows how to work high end designer fashion before and edgy footwear seems to be her weakness (see ).

Yves Saint Laurent Spring 2009 Caged Heels & Belt

The caged heels are currently available on LUISAVIAROMA for $1.190, the belt can be yours for $370. No doubt pricey, but also absolutely to die for, aren’t they?

Verizon and Blackberry Grammy Party Red Carpet Fashion

by Profashionelle on February 8, 2009 · 0 comments

Rihanna

Rihanna in a cobalt blue Preen dress at the Verizon Blackberry Grammy Party 2009

Rating: ★★★½☆

Rihanna turned up in a cobalt blue Preen dress which she accessorized with a bold diamond necklace, hoop earrings, various bracelets and rings. The singer completed her blue outfit with matching kick-ass platform heels.

The color looks divine on RiRi, but I am having serious problems with how one strap is much thicker than the other. It makes the whole dress look unbalanced.

Leona Lewis

Leona Lewis in a black and purple Hervé Léger at the Verizon and Blackberry Grammy Party 2009

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Brit export Leona Lewis opted for a black and purple Hervé Léger dress and hot pink pumps which she matched to her pink lips. Leona finished her look with a black clutch and a black square bangle.

I am somewhat tired of seeing celebrities wrapped in Hervé Léger every other day, but Leona looks good and has the curves to carry it off, so I don’t mind. I am not sold on the Barbie shoes though.

Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton in a silver sparkling dress at the Verizon and Blackberry Grammy Party 2009

Rating: ★½☆☆☆

Paris Hilton brought some serious bling on the red carpet. The socialite sparkled head-to-toe in an asymmetrical one-shoulder dress with a matching silver Chanel flap bag, an oversized diamond men’s watch and a pair of sparkling pumps.

As usual Paris goes overboard. I guess she tried to get maximum attention out of her look. Too bad, the dress alone would have made her look good. The removable shoulder fairy tattoo is also very classy, very Paris.

Andrea Bowen

Andrea Bowen in a purple halter dress at the Verizon and Blackberry Grammy Party 2009

Rating: ★★½☆☆

Andrea Bowen looked cute in a purple bubble hemmed dress which she paired with black patent round toe pumps.

Andrea is looking okay, but I feel she can do much better. The shoes were a bad choice to go with such a dress. Strappy sandals or at least peep-toes would’ve made a big difference here.

Adrienne Bailon

Adrienne Bailon in a black and blue dress at the Verizon and Blackberry Grammy Party 2009

Rating: ★★☆☆☆

Adrienne Bailon was also not looking her best. I don’t like the dress (too trashy), the make-up or the fake hair extensions. What I do love though are her black patent YSL Trib Two pumps which seemed one size too big for Adrienne.

Cassie

Cassie in a black ensemble at the Verizon and Blackberry Grammy Party 2009

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Cassie kept it low key in her all black ensemble. The occasional singer wore a black oversized silk top with a black satin mini skirt. She opted for the ankle boot version of the YSL Trib Two pump.

66th Annual Golden Globe Awards 2009 – Best Dressed

by Profashionelle on January 12, 2009 · 0 comments

Olivia Wilde

Olivia Wilde in a lavender Reem Acra Bridal Spring 2008 gown at the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards 2009

Rating: ★★★★★

It was all about Olivia Wilde in her strapless lavender gown for me. She was nothing short of SPECTACULAR in that exquisite dress with a voluminous ruffled skirt and I adored the soft pastel color on her.

Even though 2009 has just begun, I am pretty sure this dress is going to be in my “Top 5 Dresses of 2009“.

Amy Adams

Amy Adams in a black Oscar De La Renta Spring 2009 dress at the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards 2009

Rating: ★★★★★

Amy Adams was pure magic in her black strapless gown which had a voluminous skirt and leaf embellishments all over the dress. Amy opted for emerald green leaf-shaped earrings (♥ ♥ ♥) to complete her look.

It was a safe choice for Amy to wear this dress, but she looked SO, SO great in it, I couldn’t care less.

Anne Hathaway

Anne Hathaway in a dark blue Armani Privé gown at the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards 2009

Rating: ★★★★★

Anne Hathaway was almost equally stunning in her midnight blue strapless gown from the collection. The dress’s sparkling bodice was shining against Anne’s flawless alabaster skin and her stunning earrings got me gushing over her perfect ensemble.

Loved the red nail polish as well.

Laura Linney

Laura Linney in a yellow Elie Saab Spring 2008 Couture gown - 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards 2009

Rating: ★★★★★

A striking Laura Linney outshined most of her younger colleagues on the red carpet in a yellow one-shouldered gown.

The asymmetrical dress was embellished at the waist and beautifully draped at the hips. I also loved Laura’s lovely leaf-shaped earrings (♥).

Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet in a black Yves Saint Laurent dress at the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards 2009

Rating: ★★★★½

Kate Winslet was my No.1 girl crush last night. She was such a stunner! I’m so glad she won both awards for “Best Supporting Actress” and “Best Actress“. Her acceptance speech was so touching, I had to dash away one or two tears of my own.

While I will admit that her black strapless Yves Saint Laurent isn’t the most exciting dress, I am convinced Kate carried it off with more elegance than everyone else who attended the Golden Globes last night. She has so much class. I ♥ you, Kate!

January Jones

January Jones in a blue Versace Spring 2009 dress at the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards 2009

Rating: ★★★★☆

January Jones channelled old Hollywood last night in her sky blue one-shouldered dress and blonde retro waves.

Her dress had pockets at the side and gold lining along the folds. Quintessential Versace and I absolutely LOVED it!

Eva Longoria

Eva Longoria in a red Reem Acra gown at the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards 2009

Rating: ★★★★☆

Eva Longoria turned heads in a dramatic red strapless Reem Acra gown which had a long mermaid hem and scalloped edging on the bodice. The Desperate Housewives star completed her look with silver jewelry (loooove the flower-shaped earrings) and a Daniel Swarovski clutch.

This type of dress is favored by Eva for big events such as the Golden Globes. Though being a slightly predictable choice, no one is going to blame Eva for looking so stunning in this red gown.

Rumer Willis

Rumer Willis in a purple Reem Acra Pre-Fall 2009 gown at the 66th Annual Golden Globes 2009

Rating: ★★★★☆

Miss Golden Globe 2009 Rumer Willis opted for an eggplant Reem Acra Pre-Fall 2009 strapless gown which she accessorized with a black jeweled belt and looked absolutely enchanting in it.

Salma Hayek

Salma Hayek in a Bottega Veneta gown at the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards 2009

Rating: ★★★★☆

Salma Hayek sure knows how to dress her assets. The racy actress strut the red carpet in a figure-hugging ivory Bottega Veneta dress and accessorized with Boucheron jewelry and a grey Bottega Veneta woven box clutch.

Evan Rachel Wood

Evan Rachel Wood in a black Elie Saab Fall 2006 Couture gown at the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards 2009

Rating: ★★★★☆

Evan Rachel Wood looked absolutely svelte in a sparkling black tiered gown which had a plunging neckline and floral appliqué at the waist.

A great look for Evan. Maybe next time we’ll get to see a little more color on her.

Jennifer Morrison

Jennifer Morrison in a blue Oscar De La Renta Pre-Fall 2009 gown at the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards 2009

Rating: ★★★★☆

Jennifer Morrison opted for some color on the red carpet and donned a cobalt blue strapless ruched dress. The actress completed her look with an elegant updo and beautiful matching Lorraine Schwartz earrings.

This dress was one of my favorites of Oscar De La Renta‘s Pre-Fall 2009 collection and it’s great to see someone like Jennifer pulling it off effortlessly.

America Ferrera

America Ferrera in a taupe Oscar De La Renta Pre-Fall 2009 dress at the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards 2009

Rating: ★★★★☆

Kudos to America Ferrera for NOT wearing black. She was also one of the few who did not opt for floor-length gowns. Instead America went for an asymmetrical taupe knee-length dress from the collection which she accessorized with silver jewelry and matching peep-toe pumps. Gorgeous!

Mary-Louise Parker

Mary-Louise Parker in a cobalt blue Carlos Miele Spring 2009 gown at the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards 2009

Rating: ★★★★☆

Mary-Louise Parkerfelt blue” last night and opted for a cobalt blue strapless dress which had asymmetrical tiers cascading down from the bodice with a floaty chiffon train at the bottom. The actress completed her look with a Mary Norton clutch and Chopard jewelry.

I wasn’t too fond of the blue eyeshadow though.

Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore in a light blue John Galliano for Dior gown at the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards 2009

Rating: ★★★★☆

Drew Barrymore was delicate in her dusty blue John Galliano off-the-shoulder gown. Most people weren’t discussing her dress though, but her big messy hair. Personally I didn’t really like it, but apart from that Drew looked to good to not being on the “Best Dressed”-list. But I am still not sold on the red clutch, too.

Kate Beckinsale

Kate Beckinsale in a white J.Mendel gown at the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards 2009

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Kate Beckinsale is starting to annoy me with her really booooring dress choices. Yes, she looked great in that white strapless dress from J.Mendel (again!), but her dresses are all the same. Strapless, figure-hugging and often white. And those ruby red chandelier earrings didn’t do anything for me either. Start reading some fashion blogs, Kate!

Beyoncé Knowles

Beyoncé Knowles in sparkling Elie Saab Spring 2008 Couture gown at the 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards 2009

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Beyoncé Knowles in was also very predictable. The singer left her alter ego Sasha Fierce at home and turned to her old bling bling “Look, here I am!“-self with a faible for too-tight-to-stand-straight-in-it type of dresses. I liked her more when she tried the risky route (think Gareth Pugh).

Beyoncé’s necklace was to die for though, so she hits the last place on “Best Dressed“.

Sarah Silverman

Sarah Silverman in Converse Chucks and a blck dress at the 14th Annual Critics' Choice Awards 2009

Rating: ★☆☆☆☆

Sarah Silverman was by far the worst dressed on the red carpet. The funny woman tried to pull off a joke by pairing a black prom-like dress with red Converse Chucks and a pair of tennis socks. Was that supposed to be funny? I mean I do get that she tried to make fun of the red carpet frenzy here, but the joke backfired instead making Sarah herself be the joke. She probably won’t be too bothered about it though and will laugh it away like a good comedian should.

Kristen Bell

Kristen Bell in a silver tube dress at the 14th Annual Critics' Choice Awards 2009

Rating: ★½☆☆☆

Kristen Bell is another one who got it all wrong with her outfit. Did she really think a shapeless creased silver tube dress would make her look good? Kristen normally puts a lot of effort in her red carpet outfits, so I suppose she missed the date of the Critics’ Choice Awards, got panicked and snapped the next best thing out of the laundry.

I give her half a star fo the grey patent stilettos and another half for the cute statement necklace. These are the best things about her attire.

UPDATE: I cannot believe this shapeless dress is a piece from the collection. But it still looks a thousand times better on the model.

Marisa Tomei

Marisa Tomei in a black Giambattista Valli Fall 2006 dress at the 14th Annual Critics' Choice Awards 2009

Rating: ★½☆☆☆

Marisa Tomei also had a hard time pulling off this black Giambattista Valli Fall 2006 dress. The dress is gorgeous as it was presented on the runway, but it should’ve been adjusted to fit Tomei’s tiny frame (especially shortened because it looks so unflattering at this length). A typical case of dress domination.

Penélope Cruz

Penélope Cruz in a blue Yves Saint Laurent dress at the 14th Annual Critics' Choice Awards 2009

Rating: ★★½☆☆

Penélope Cruz is normally ones of my red carpet faves. Not that she is a big fashion risk taker, but she usually wears something beautiful and elegant that makes her stand out from the crowd (think Oscars 2007).

Unfortunately this was not the case here when Penélope chose to walk the red carpet in a midnight blue strapless Yves Saint Laurent gown. Not that it’s an ugly dress, but it looks simply plain and boring on Penélope who didn’t seem too fond of her dress choice as well. Let’s hope she’s saved the best for the big occassions.

I do envy Penélope’s YSL clutch though.

Who was the worst dressed at the 14th Annual Critics' Choice Awards 2009?
