If you haven’t already noticed, Heroes hottie Hayden Panettiere has been sporting a rather unhealthy obsession with a certain look lately – the tucked in white blouse combined with a black pencil skirt and black pumps (mostly peep-toes).
As far as our research goes, Hayden’s been opting at least 6x for this monochrome sophisticated look in the last 4 months.
Apart from seeing this look too many times on Hayden now, I really like the combination (if chosen carefully). But still, I can’t help thinking that this is not a style that suits Hayden very much. First, it makes Hayden age about 10 to 15 years. Considered that the actress is only 18, it’s kind of weird to see her going for the “First Lady“-look. Second, Hayden’s a petite girl and that really nice pencil skirt is cutting off her short legs at a rather unflattering, not so nice length. In fact, the skirt makes Hayden look smaller and boxier than she actually is. But see for yourself.
October 13, 2007 – Christian Louboutin Party, New York

This event seems to be the birth of Hayden’s current obsession with pencil skirts. She paired her satin skirt with a tucked in white backless halter top, a large red clutch and a pair of black velvet Louboutins.

November 14, 2007 – Lamborghini Opening to Benefit the Epilepsy Foundation, New York

Fast forward one month later. Same skirt, same belt, same shoes, different white top, but still white, still tucked in.
December 13, 2007 – 65th Annual Golden Globe Award Nominations, New York

Again one month later. A new pencil skirt, but still black. Yes, technically spoken, the sleeveless turtleneck top is not exactly white and it’s also not tucked in, but it’s still the same boring style.
In this case, Hayden should’ve rather worn the shirt tucked in because it falls way too long on her small frame making Hayden look smaller.
December 14, 2007 – Z100′s Jingle Ball 2007, New York

Next day, but basically the same outfit. Same black pencil skirt, same black shoes and -surprise- a white tucked in blouse (again sleeveless, but this time ruffled)
Covet this look? Here are some “Look for Less“-alternatives:

January 31, 2008 – New Year, New Old Navy Celebration, New York

New Year, same old look on Hayden. Black pencil skirt? Check. Black peep-toe heels? Check. White tucked in top? Check. (Okay, okay, the top’s ivory, but you get the idea).
(Btw, the ivory silk chiffon tie blouse is from Nu Collective and can be purchased for $185 at Singer22 and ShopDaja)
Summary
Hayden, darling, please give us some rest from your favorite look. We all know you like pencil skirts by now, so how about getting some variety in your closet? Unlike us mortals, I’m sure you get tons of great new stuff delivered to your doorstep every day, so why not take advantage of it?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against recycling clothes, but Hayden’s carried things too far here with her faible for the monochrome look. It’s not about being economic anymore, it’s about being plain boring and uncreative.
Of course, there still might be a reasonable explanation why Hayden’s been channeling her inner secretary for the last few months. Maybe she landed a role as an office lady and that’s how she prepares for the role? You know, method acting at its best.
So what do you think about Hayden and her pencil skirt?
(UPDATE: HA! I knew I wasn’t the only one aware of Hayden’s pencil skirt obsession. Check out Stylefrizz for some more similar Hayden looks).
