16th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards – Best Dressed

Kate Hudson in Emilio Pucci Spring 2010, Diane Kruger in Jason Wu, Christina Applegate in Roberto Cavalli, Anna Paquin in Alexander McQueen Spring 2010, Lea Michele in Catherine Malandrino Spring 2010, Anna Kendrick in Alberta Ferretti, Marion Cotillard in Elie Saab Fall 2009 Couture & Sandra Bullock in Alexander McQueen at the 2010 SAG Awards

Yesterday at the 2010 SAG Awards I first saw Kate Hudson in her beautiful white backless Emilio Pucci gown and she just blew me away. So much that I almost forgot she had already picked a white gown for the 2010 Golden Globes last week. But she looked too angelic for me to bother.

Diane Kruger is always so flawless it’s almost boring! For me, she was the best dressed last night in her mustard fitted off-the-shoulder Jason Wu gown. Her dress instantly reminded me of Michelle Williams Vera Wang gown at the Oscars in 2006. No one can do old Hollywood glamour like Diane. Perfection!

Christina Applegate is always hit and miss on the red carpet, but on this ocassion she was simply breath-taking in a gorgeous dusty blue Roberto Cavalli chiffon gown. Perfectly accessorized, Christina was definitely among my top 3 for best dressed last night.

Anna Paquin was one of the few who rather opted for a short frock. Her printed plunge neck dress was from Alexander McQueen’s spectacular Spring 2010 collection and Anna did the dress more than justice.

I always love to see green on the red carpet, it’s such a flattering yet underappreciated color! Fortunately, Lea Michele was brave enough to don this emerald green plunge neck column gown by Catherine Malandrino. Simply stunning!

Anna Kendrick wore a fuchsia strapless Alberta Ferretti ruffle gown. She may be new to the red carpet game, but she’s already acting like a pro. Love it!

Isn’t it refreshing to see Marion Cotillard in something other than Dior? Don’t get me wrong, I love Christian Dior as much as anybody else, but over time Marion’s red carpet looks became stale and predictable. I was hoping for a sexier look this time and it seems like the fashion gods answered my prayers. Marion’s white crystal embellished feathered frock from Elie Saab’s Fall 2009 Couture collection was a mixture of diva meets revue dancer. Magnifique, Marion!

Sandra Bullock‘s dress choice was more understated than her purple stand-out gown at the Globes, but that didn’t stop her from being once again a stunner in a black keyhole Alexander McQueen gown looking all classy and statuesque.

15th Annual SAG Awards 2009 – Worst Dressed

by Profashionelle on January 31, 2009 · 0 comments

Paula Abdul

Paula Abdul in a red ruffled dress at the 2009 SAG Awards

Rating: ★☆☆☆☆

Paula Abdul got it oh-so-wrong. The red ruffle madness she mistook for a dress could have easily passed off as an inflatable life vest. The hair and forced smile did some collateral damage, too.

Lisa Rinna

Lisa Rinna in a red dress at the 2009 SAG Awards

Rating: ★☆☆☆☆

Lisa Rinna didn’t do much better by overexposing herself and flashing her underwear due to the thigh high slit on her dress. Classy!

Samantha Harris

Samantha Harris in a red Escada knockoff Faviana gown at the 2009 SAG Awards

Rating: ★½☆☆☆

It seems red is either a real fashion hit or a massive fashion failure. We’ve had some amazing ladies in red, but Samantha Harris was not among them. Her dress wasn’t too bad… at least for a knockoff which was a replica of Katherine Heigl‘s Escada gown from last year’s Oscars.

Nicolette Sheridan

Nicolette Sheridan in a blue Roberto Cavalli Resort 2009 gown at the 2009 SAG Awards

Rating: ★½☆☆☆

It was only once that Nicolette Sheridan stunned me by what she wore on the red carpet and that was her gorgeous purple Angel Sanchez dress from the Emmys last year. Ever since I have seen her falling backwards again and this Roberto Cavalli Resort 2009 dress fits perfectly in. Apart from the color, I’m really not into it and didn’t think this was even considered to be a red carpet choice (it’s kind of more like a summer dress for me).

Eva Longoria

Eva Longoria in a peach Jenny Packham Spring 2009 dress at the 2009 SAG Awards

Rating: ★★☆☆☆

Bridesmaid alarm on the red carpet! Eva Longoria strut the red carpet in a peach gown which I found horrible. It was too peachy, had too many ruffles on the peplum and I wasn’t into Eva’s grandma hair as well. I think I’m going to have nightmares because of this color!

America Ferrera

America Ferrera in a taupe Vera Wang gown at the 2009 SAG Awards

Rating: ★★½☆☆

I miss seeing America Ferrera in something other than black or what I call “blah“-colors. Anyone remember her amazing blue Marchesa gown from the NAACP Awards 2008? She looked spectacular back then. Nowadays, her red carpet choices seem to be muted in color just like this taupe Vera Wang strapless dress which totally washed her out.

Is it me or has America lost weight recently?

Marcia Cross

Marcia Cross in a dark blue strapless Carolina Herrera gown at the 2009 SAG Awards

Rating: ★★½☆☆

I hate to put Marcia Cross on the “Worst Dressed“-list, but that midnight blue Carolina Herrera gown she was wearing really wasn’t doing anything for her. Plus, I hate those geometric shaped black embellishments on the dress. Other than that, Marcia looked flawless as always, very elegant and feminine.

At this year’s SAG Awards, there were quite a few ladies sporting a rather unconventional color on their red carpet dresses: teal.

But which lovely gal rocked this shade of turquoise best? Was it Amanda Bynes in Marchesa, Marcia Cross in Monique Lhuillier or Jamie-Lynn Sigler in Calvin Klein? Let us know.

Though I personally like Amanda’s embellished empire waisted dress best, I think I’ll go with Marcia Cross here. She perfectly accesorized her gown and the red hair creates a striking contrast with the vibrant color of her dress.

Amanda Bynes

Amanda Bynes in Marchesa Resort 2008 - SAG Awards 2008

Rating: ★★★★½

Amanda Bynes was picture perfect in a stunning teal blue embellished strapless gown.

A perfect red carpet moment for Amanda and she definitely managed to stand out between all the big names. This is the best I’ve seen Amanda look so far and I hope she stays on that course fashionwise in 2008.

P.S.: I cannot tell you how much I adore Amanda’s do. She looks like a gorgeous fairy tale princess. Pure perfection & my red carpet favorite yet.

Ashley Tisdale

Ashley Tisdale - SAG Awards 2008

Rating: ★★★½☆

Ashley Tisdale looks very grown up and sophisticated in this beautiful white floor-length gown. Maybe it’s the new nose which makes her look so different here, but I think I also like her hair here. She still needs to learn how to strike a good pose though.

Eva Longoria

Eva Longoria in Naeem Khan Spring 2008 - SAG Awards 2008

Rating: ★★★★☆

For someone as petite as Eva Longoria floor-length gowns aren’t easy to pull off, but the Desperate Housewives star does it with grace as per usual.

At this year’s SAGs Eva was giving us some old Hollywood glamour wearing a sexy ice white gown which gave us a pretty good sight on her fully-exposed back.

But the real deal about Eva’s look are her dazzling Verdura earrings if you ask me. Dramatic!

Kate Beckinsale

Kate Beckinsale in Luisa Beccaria Spring 2008- SAG Awards 2008

Rating: ★★★★☆

Kate Beckinsale was a glowing beauty in this lemon yellow strapless satin gown. She accesorized her shiny appearance with Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry.

Kate sure knows how to work the red carpet. I love the color of the dress and it’s a pleasant change to finally see some daring hues on the red carpet. Kate explains her color choice:

“It’s such a miserable day here I thought I’d bring a little sunshine.”

Marcia Cross

Marcia Cross in Monique Lhuillier Pre-Fall 2008 - SAG Awards 2008

Rating: ★★★★☆

Marcia Cross turned heads by wearing a gorgeous teal strapless floor-length gown. The dazzling contrast between the color of the dress and Marcia’s shiny red hair is fierce.

Marcia complemented her draping frock with jewels from Lorraine Schwartz.

Marion Cotillard

Marion Cotillard in Nina Ricci Spring 2008 - SAG Awards 2008

Rating: ★★★★☆

Marion Cotillard was another red carpet favorite of mine wearing an amazing corseted, pleated and gathered strapless gown with Chopard jewelry.

Also thumbs up for Marion wearing her hair up; this was the best decision she could make for this dress. This cloudy grey gown needs space to make a bold statement. The only downside of Marion’s getup was the color of the dress – it was a tad boring.

Michelle Pfeiffer

Michelle Pfeiffer in Versace Pre-Fall 2008 - SAG Awards 2008

Rating: ★★★½☆

The age defying Michelle Pfeiffer chose to look absolutely fabulous by wearing a brownish monochrome cocktail dress. The dress is a bit of an understatement for such a big ceremony as the SAG Awards, but she makes it work for her.

Michelle finished off her look by pairing her dress with matching satin peep-toe Louboutins. Lovely!

Sophia Bush

Sophia Bush - SAG Awards 2008

Rating: ★★★½☆

Sophia Bush seems to have picked up on Michelle Pfeiffer because she also decided to go with a brown short strapless frock. While the color isn’t one I would’ve chosen for such an event, I do like the sheeny silhouette of Sophia’s ruched cocktail dress.
