Rihanna vs. Nicky Hilton – Who Wore Alexander Wang Better?

Rihanna and Nicky Hilton wearing the same Alexander Wang Pre-Fall 2009 one shoulder goddess dress in black

Rihanna has been parading around a lot of Alexander Wang designs lately. Back in May she wore a black one shoulder dress from his Pre-Fall 2009 collection at the Studio Valbonne Club in London. The singer completed her edgy ensemble with black ($695).

A few days ago Nicky Hilton attended the MTV screening of Paris, Not France in Los Angeles to support her sister Paris wearing the same Alexander Wang LBD. However, Nicky glammed it up with emerald drop earrings and a pair of delicate ($815).

This one’s pretty easy for me. NICKY all the way because a) I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE her stunning emerald green drop earrings and b) because Rihanna is really annoying me lately with her trying-too-hard-to-be-edgy attitude lately. Whom do you prefer in the LBD?

Rihanna vs. Paris Hilton – Who Wore Alexander Wang Better?

Rihanna and Paris Hilton wearing the same nude and black Alexander Wang Pre-Fall 2009 strapless corset dress

Rihanna hasn’t wowed me in a long time, but when she was papped leaving Kanye West’s apartment in New York on May 22, she completely redeemed herself by wearing a stunning nude and black corset dress from Alexander Wang’s Pre-Fall 2009 collection. Rihanna wore the dress with a silver metallic Erva “Razza” tote and black Jil Sander platform heelsicon ($680).

Paris Hilton followed in Rihanna’s footsteps and wore the same corset dress a few days later when she arrived for a taping of the Late Show With David Letterman in New York on June 1st. Paris opted to wear her favorite It shoe of the moment, the YSL Trib Two heels, and the popular House of Harlow 1960 Resin Necklace ($125) with her dress.

I like the dress on both (probably because it was one of my favorites from Wang’s collection), but I prefer it on Rihanna. She fills it out better and was more creative choosing her accessories. Who’s your favorite?

Costume Institute Gala 2009 – Worst Dressed

Keep hitting the F5 on your keyboard from time to time as I will be updating this post throughout the night. Best Dressed are here.

Rachel Weisz

Rating: ★½☆☆☆

It pains me to put Rachel Weisz in here, but she got it all wrong. Her lilac strapless Vera Wang tulle gown totally washed her out, the make-up was waaaay too dark (OMG!@ berry lips) and why, oh why, is that yellow fabric peeking out from under the hem? Sorry, Rachel, you can do so much better.

Kate Beckinsale

Kate Beckinsale wearing a navy Marchesa Fall 2009 ruffled tulle gown

Rating: ★½☆☆☆

I’ve had enough with Kate Beckinsale. Her Marchesa Fall 2009 navy tulle gown was, as you would expect from Kate, over the top and unnecessary. I have never liked this dress in the first place, but seeing it on Kate makes it even worse because she ALWAYS plays it safe and never moves out of her comfort zone.

Rihanna

Rating: ★★☆☆☆

Rihanna, please stop trying so hard. Don’t get me wrong, I love the runway look, but Rihanna makes it look so desperate for attention and so silly I can’t stand it.

I also find it always were amusing when at prestigious events such as the Costume Institute Gala where women are expected to wear beautiful, feminine princess dresses there are always 1 or 2 witty female individuals who opt out of this dress code. These women think they will come off so edgy and anti-establishment when they wear something super masculine like a suit or a tuxedo for example. GENIUS, girl! I bet no one else EVER had the same idea.

Leighton Meester

Rating: ★★☆☆☆

Imagine Leighton Meester‘s outfit without the leggings and you have a Best Dressed candidate. Leighton’s head-to-toe Louis Vuitton Fall 2009 look is a perfect example when too much becomes too bad. Such a shame!

Anne Hathaway

Rating: ★★½☆☆

Anne Hathaway channelled 60s Jackie O chic and me no likey. I love Anne just as anybody else, but this eggplant Marc Jacobs bubbly dress does absolutely nothing for her. Not digging the hair and shoes as well.

Emma Roberts

Emma Roberts wearing a red Atelier Versace Spring 2009 bubble-shaped mini dress

Rating: ★★½☆☆

I know a lot of you will not agree with me for putting Emma Roberts on the Worst Dressed list, but let me try to get my point across. I absolutely ADORE this red bubble-shaped Atelier Versace Spring 2009 mini dress. In fact it’s one of my favorite from that collection. But you can tell from a mile away that this dress was the wrong choice for Emma. It’s a dress for a SUPERMODEL! And even then I think it would be quite tricky to pull it off because of the shape. Emma looks weird and unsure of herself, the dress owns her. Not good.

Why did Donatella give it away for Emma? I mean, come on! I would have LOVED to see it on Gisele, Linda or Naomi. They would have done this dress justice.

Lindsay Lohan vs. Kelly Osbourne vs. Blake Lively vs. Rihanna vs. Dasha Zhukova vs. Christina Milian – Who Wore Alexander Wang Better?

Lindsay Lohan, Kelly Osbourne, Blake Lively, Rihanna, Dasha Zhukova and Christina Milian wearing the same Alexander Wang Spring 2009 faux denim leather jacket

This faux denim leather jacket ($1.495) from Alexander Wang’s Spring 2009 collection must be the most coveted item in Hollywood right now. Everyone has been seen wearing it lately. But who wore it best?

I’m not into that suede jacket to begin with, but if I had to choose a winner, my vote would definitely go to Rihanna because the jacket fits in best with the rest of her badass getup (her Balmain stilettos earn her some extra points!).

I also like the jacket on Lindsay and Blake, the rest is rather nay than yay. Kelly’s white bag is totally off while Dasha’s outfit is way too tamed and too plain for such a statement item. Wearing that jacket under a white floor-length jersey dress with the most awful bleached hair EVER is fashion suicide. Christina Milian is in need of some serious style lessons.

Verizon and Blackberry Grammy Party Red Carpet Fashion

Rihanna

Rihanna in a cobalt blue Preen dress at the Verizon Blackberry Grammy Party 2009

Rating: ★★★½☆

Rihanna turned up in a cobalt blue Preen dress which she accessorized with a bold diamond necklace, hoop earrings, various bracelets and rings. The singer completed her blue outfit with matching kick-ass platform heels.

The color looks divine on RiRi, but I am having serious problems with how one strap is much thicker than the other. It makes the whole dress look unbalanced.

Leona Lewis

Leona Lewis in a black and purple Hervé Léger at the Verizon and Blackberry Grammy Party 2009

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Brit export Leona Lewis opted for a black and purple Hervé Léger dress and hot pink pumps which she matched to her pink lips. Leona finished her look with a black clutch and a black square bangle.

I am somewhat tired of seeing celebrities wrapped in Hervé Léger every other day, but Leona looks good and has the curves to carry it off, so I don’t mind. I am not sold on the Barbie shoes though.

Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton in a silver sparkling dress at the Verizon and Blackberry Grammy Party 2009

Rating: ★½☆☆☆

Paris Hilton brought some serious bling on the red carpet. The socialite sparkled head-to-toe in an asymmetrical one-shoulder dress with a matching silver Chanel flap bag, an oversized diamond men’s watch and a pair of sparkling pumps.

As usual Paris goes overboard. I guess she tried to get maximum attention out of her look. Too bad, the dress alone would have made her look good. The removable shoulder fairy tattoo is also very classy, very Paris.

Andrea Bowen

Rating: ★★½☆☆

Andrea Bowen looked cute in a purple bubble hemmed dress which she paired with black patent round toe pumps.

Andrea is looking okay, but I feel she can do much better. The shoes were a bad choice to go with such a dress. Strappy sandals or at least peep-toes would’ve made a big difference here.

Adrienne Bailon

Rating: ★★☆☆☆

Adrienne Bailon was also not looking her best. I don’t like the dress (too trashy), the make-up or the fake hair extensions. What I do love though are her black patent YSL Trib Two pumps which seemed one size too big for Adrienne.

Cassie

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Cassie kept it low key in her all black ensemble. The occasional singer wore a black oversized silk top with a black satin mini skirt. She opted for the ankle boot version of the YSL Trib Two pump.
