Diane Kruger in Balmain, Louis Vuitton, Hervé Léger, Chanel, Marchesa & Atelier Versace at "Inglorious Basterds" Premieres

Diane Kruger‘s Inglorious Basterds promotion tour is now over. Diane gave us a multitude of different looks – from rock chick Balmain chic (London) to “stars are falling off my dress” uber glam (Los Angeles). Which of the various red carpets look did you like best?

While I like each and every of Diane’s looks, I think I most adored her in the red Marchesa dress. Boring, obvious choice, I know, but she most captivated me in this look and I stand by my opinion. What do you think?

What was your favorite Diane Kruger red carpet look?

Costume Institute Gala 2009 – Worst Dressed

by Profashionelle on May 5, 2009 · 0 comments

Keep hitting the F5 on your keyboard from time to time as I will be updating this post throughout the night. Best Dressed are here.

Rachel Weisz

Rachel Weisz wearing a lilac Vera Wang lilac strapless tulle gown

Rating: ★½☆☆☆

It pains me to put Rachel Weisz in here, but she got it all wrong. Her lilac strapless Vera Wang tulle gown totally washed her out, the make-up was waaaay too dark (OMG!@ berry lips) and why, oh why, is that yellow fabric peeking out from under the hem? Sorry, Rachel, you can do so much better.

Kate Beckinsale

Kate Beckinsale wearing a navy Marchesa Fall 2009 ruffled tulle gown

Rating: ★½☆☆☆

I’ve had enough with Kate Beckinsale. Her Marchesa Fall 2009 navy tulle gown was, as you would expect from Kate, over the top and unnecessary. I have never liked this dress in the first place, but seeing it on Kate makes it even worse because she ALWAYS plays it safe and never moves out of her comfort zone.

Rihanna

Rating: ★★☆☆☆

Rihanna, please stop trying so hard. Don’t get me wrong, I love the runway look, but Rihanna makes it look so desperate for attention and so silly I can’t stand it.

I also find it always were amusing when at prestigious events such as the Costume Institute Gala where women are expected to wear beautiful, feminine princess dresses there are always 1 or 2 witty female individuals who opt out of this dress code. These women think they will come off so edgy and anti-establishment when they wear something super masculine like a suit or a tuxedo for example. GENIUS, girl! I bet no one else EVER had the same idea.

Leighton Meester

Rating: ★★☆☆☆

Imagine Leighton Meester‘s outfit without the leggings and you have a Best Dressed candidate. Leighton’s head-to-toe Louis Vuitton Fall 2009 look is a perfect example when too much becomes too bad. Such a shame!

Anne Hathaway

Rating: ★★½☆☆

Anne Hathaway channelled 60s Jackie O chic and me no likey. I love Anne just as anybody else, but this eggplant Marc Jacobs bubbly dress does absolutely nothing for her. Not digging the hair and shoes as well.

Marc Jacobs Fall 2009

Emma Roberts

Rating: ★★½☆☆

I know a lot of you will not agree with me for putting Emma Roberts on the Worst Dressed list, but let me try to get my point across. I absolutely ADORE this red bubble-shaped Atelier Versace Spring 2009 mini dress. In fact it’s one of my favorite from that collection. But you can tell from a mile away that this dress was the wrong choice for Emma. It’s a dress for a SUPERMODEL! And even then I think it would be quite tricky to pull it off because of the shape. Emma looks weird and unsure of herself, the dress owns her. Not good.

Why did Donatella give it away for Emma? I mean, come on! I would have LOVED to see it on Gisele, Linda or Naomi. They would have done this dress justice.

Cecile Cassel and Kerry Washington wearing the same Louis Vuitton Spring 2009 blazer and skirt ensemble

Cécile Cassel attended the Fashion Dinner for Aids on January 29th in Paris being completely decked out in Louis Vuitton. The French actress wore a black Spring 2009 ensemble which consisted of a black blazer, a wide red and orange lace-up belt, a feathered black skirt and the obligatory safari standout heels.

Kerry Washington followed to wear the same basic blazer and skirt ensemble at the 2nd Annual ESSENCE Black Women In Hollywood Luncheon on February 19th in Beverly Hills. Kerry however decided to spice it up a little by adding a gold and silver lace-up belt, an oversized black clutch and animal print wedge pumps to her look.

I honestly think it’s nearly impossible to outdo Kerry here. She was absolute gorgeousness in that LV ensemble. Kerry also accessorized much better and experimented by opting out of wearing head-to-toe Louis Vuitton. The blazer seemed more fitted on her than on Cécile (also the skirt was longer on Cécile) and Kerry looks so happy and confident whereas Cécile seemed to be feeling slightly uneasy. Definite win for Kerry! But who’s your winner?

Who wore Louis Vuitton better?

Bebe Spring 2009 Copying Like Crazy

by Profashionelle on March 24, 2009 · 2 comments

Today seems to be copycat day. First we had designer knockoffs and now I stumble upon with LOADS of “inspired by“-pieces from big names like Balmain (of course!), Louis Vuitton (sure!), Stella McCartney (again!), Alexander Wang (yeah!), Valentino (always!) and Christian Louboutin (not one to forget!). And these are just the ones I spotted. Who knows how many are left unidentified.

Let’s start with the Miami Vice look. I instantly thought of Alexander Wang’s Spring 2009 blazer/shorts combo when I saw the pink blazer, then my eyes went down to the shoes which are an almost identical version of Stella McCartney’s Spring 2009 mesh heels. And finally a bag k/o which looks very much like the Valentino sequin satin glamorous tote recently seen on Victoria Beckham and Fergie.

Balmain Spring 2009

Balmain gets copied A LOT these days ever since Decarnin took the lead design for the French fashion house. Not only did Bebe rip off the famous studded and rhinestoned sandals (also copied by Zara and ,) but they borrowed some of the dress styles, too.

Louis Vuitton Spring 2009

Bebe has taken a lot of inspiration from Louis Vuitton’s African Safari collection (Spring 2009) as well. There are no 100% matches, but the look and feel of the Bebe items are very Louis Vuitton-ish. The standout LV heels have made quite a statement in the fashion world as a lot of celebrities rocked them recently, so Bebe did their best to deliver “low”-cost fashion to the masses I guess.

Christian Louboutin

These badass Louboutins are a must-have shoe this season. Celebrities like Heidi Klum and Jennifer Lopez have been wearing this style and helped propel this shoe to super stardom. Of course, Bebe did not want to miss out on this shoe obsession, so they created the “Delaney” sandal, a watered-down version of the buckled Louboutin.

So, what do you think? Do you like the Bebe knockoffs or do you prefer the real thing? If you find more designer references, please drop me a line (profashionelle[at]gmail.com).

Are you going to buy any of the Bebe knockoffs?

Most of the items haven’t hit the shelves yet, but expect them to be up for sale in a few days and I’m pretty sure the knockoffs, especially the Balmain-esque rhinestone stilettos will be sold out fast. I will let you guys know when these are available online, so if you haven’t subscribed via E-Mail yet, now is the time to do so.
