John Galliano Fall 2009 Collection

John Galliano’s Fall 2009 show was everything you’d expect from him. Magical, bold, daring and extravagant. Every season he comes up with a completely different collection; his inspiration seems to come from an inexhaustible source. His newest masterpiece was all about Russian folklore. A fluorescent bubble snowstorm was raving on the runway which looked more like a portal to another magical world.

The show started with broad-hipped, full-skirted baboushka coats and extreme exaggerated hips followed by traditional folklore attire which were adorned with tons of ornaments and embellishments. Galliano’s passion for detail was clearly visible in the lavishly crafted headdresses, belts and sky high laced platform pompom boots. The color palette was a bit muted for Galliano. A lot of greys, blacks and browns were used, but every now and then a stroke of blue or orange would brighten up the runway.

Towards the end of the show there was an explosion of sheer floor-length dresses which seemed more like Galliano’s traditional territory that were reminiscent of Russian ice princesses or spooky ghost brides.

Galliano’s Fall 2009 collection was not meant for the masses and I am so curious to see if, apart from the occasional high fashion editorial, any of the pieces will find their way onto the streets or on the red carpet.

BAFTA Awards 2009 – Best Dressed

by Profashionelle on February 9, 2009 · 0 comments

Sorry guys, I know I’m horribly late on the BAFTA Awards coverage, but the pictures just wouldn’t come in. I guess the rain kept most of the paps inside. But I finally managed to get them all together this evening: the best dressed ladies from The Orange British Academy Film Awards 2009. Enjoy!

Worst Dressed are coming soon…. I need a short rest first.

Freida Pinto

Rating: ★★★★☆

Freida Pinto was absolutely gorgeous in a pink strapless gown which had a sweetheart neckline and tiered tulle ruffles allover. Freida injected some Indian pizzazz to her look by adding a colorful Bollywood necklace. Definitely the Best Dressed at the BAFTAs.

Sharon Stone

Rating: ★★★★☆

Sharon Stone was breathtaking last night. In fact, I think I’ve never seen her looking better and am all the more surprised because she’s normally a Worst Dressed regular. But there’s no animal print here, no tackiness, just a youthful Sharon looking fantastic in a fire-red John Galliano Spring 2009 strapless gown.

On a side note: Whatever Sharon takes to stay young, I want the same! Woman does not look a day older than a very good 35 (she’s 50).

Kate Winslet

Rating: ★★★★☆

Kate Winslet played it safe once again, but oh my, she is so owning this black mermaidesque gown. The British beauty radiated happiness and looked amazing in her body-con dress. Love it, but I hope and pray she wears something with color to the Oscars.

Kristin Scott Thomas

Rating: ★★★★☆

Kristin Scott Thomas was a vision in her beautiful colorblock gown which had a black embroidered bodice and a cobalt blue silk skirt. She looked so elegant & classy.

Amy Adams

Rating: ★★★½☆

Amy Adams was also stunning in an electric blue RM by Roland Mouret mermaid gown. The color is gorgeous against her pale skin and red hair and I simply loved her pearl necklace & earrings. The only thing bugging me is that her dress reminds me a lot of Kate Winslet’s gown from this year’s SAG Awards.

Kylie Minogue

Rating: ★★★½☆

Kylie Minogue looked cute and sexy in a seasoned Chanel Fall 2002 Couture dress and gold strappy sandals. A gorgeous dress for her, she looks adorable.

Angelina Jolie

Rating: ★★★½☆

Luckily, Angelina took a step back from wearing loose dresses and gave us something more interesting at this year’s BAFTA Awards. Her Armani Privé Spring 2009 dress was folded on the front and had a neon yellow lining. Angelina completed her look with black satin Louboutin pumps.

Thandie Newton

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Thanide Newton looked great in her black vintage gown which had a tulle overlay skirt and gold stripes allover, but I have come to expect a lot more from her and think she can do so much better.

Emma Watson

Emma Watson in a black Temperley London dress at the 2009 BAFTA Awards

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Emma Watson looked very grown up & elegant in her black Temperley London gown which had a black and white rosette detailing on the neckline. A great look on Emma, but she could use some color next time.
