Carrie Underwood vs. Whitney Port – Who Wore Pamella Roland Better?

Carrie Underwood and Whitney Port wearing the same Pamella Roland Spring 2009 sequinned black sleeve dress

Back in February, singer Carrie Underwood worked the red carpet of Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Party in a black sequinned Pamella Roland Spring 2009 dress which had silver polka dots and bell-shaped sleeves. Carrie finished her look with a wild mane, big chandelier earrings, a silver clutch and matching strappy sandals.

Whitney Port seemed to like this dress as well as she has worn it yesterday to the I Love Gen Art: 15th Anniversary Benefit in New York. Whitney went minimalistic on the accessories and only added subtle jewelry to her look.

I think both women look considerably well in that dress even though I am not particularly fond of oversized polka dots. However if I had to choose a winner, I’d go for Whitney as the polka dots are enough of an attention puller and the dress doesn’t need too much accessories in my opinion. That’s why Whitney wins for me even though her brownish pumps are throwing her look off a bit. What do you think?

Request: Carrie Underwood’s Red Naeem Khan Dress 4 Less

When I was looking through the site’s traffic stats today, I found a lot of people were coming from a Yahoo Answers thread where a girl was looking for a specific celebrity inspired prom dress:

I am looking for a look-alike dress like Carrie Underwood [wore at the Movies Rock 2007 event].

It is red, with gold embellishment. If anyone can find a dress like this I will be forever grateful!!

Thanks.

I did a quick search and came up with a few good alternatives. Hope you like it!

Carrie Underwood in Naeem Khan Resort 2008 – Movies Rock 2007

Carrie Underwood in a red Naeem Khan Resort 2008 plunge neck gown at Movies Rock 2007

First off, I can see why you love the dress so much. That red grecian inspired gown is probably the best dress Carrie Underwood has ever been wearing.

But it wasn’t all about the dress. Carrie was overall looking fantastic and accessorized well with a gold clutch, matching chandelier earrings and a gold bangle.

A Dress 4 Less – Carrie Underwood Style

I didn’t know how big or small your budget is, so I tried to find the best of the best in the $200-$400 range which I hope is affordable for you. I couldn’t find a replica of Carrie’s dress, but I stumbled upon some beautiful alternatives which I hope will please you as much as they pleased me.

Red floor-length prom dresses in the style of Carrie Underwood at Movies Rock (Naeem Khan)

Dress #1 is my absolute favorite and probably the closest match to Carrie’s dress you’ll find. I adore the gold details on the shoulder and the floaty nature of the dress. The bodice isn’t as loose fitting as on Carrie’s version and the plunge neckline isn’t as deep, but I think this might be working for you since you’re still going to High School.

If you’re all about the embellished waist on Carrie’s dress, you could try to find a wide gold belt to go with the dress, but I feel it could also do without and make you still look equally spectacular.

Dress #2 and #3 come close and are beautiful alternatives if you don’t mind that the embellishments are silver.

Dress #4 and #5 are a bit on the Bollywood side, but if accessorized well they can look fantastic on you.

  3. Rhinestone Red Jersey Prom Dress by Faviana ($358)
  4. Red Pleated Prom Dress from Night Moves by Allure ($378)
  5. Classic Red Prom Gown by Faviana ($278)

If you aren’t happy about any of the dresses, check out the eDressMe’s red prom dresses. They have a huge selection of amazing dresses. Who knows, maybe you’ll find a completely different dress you like.

Accessories

After you’ve settled for the dress, choose jewelry that emphasizes your dress. Don’t overdo it and make sure nothing about your getup will upstage the person wearing it.

Gold Accessories - Bangles, Cocktail Rings, Chandelier Earrings - Forever 21

I went for gold accessories, but if you decide on a dress with silver embellishments (e.g. #2 to #5), of course you’ll have to choose matching silver jewelry.

If you feel bold enough for some edge, add the turquoise cocktail ring (#5) to your prom attire. It’s not an obvious color combination, but I guarantee you, it will make you stand out.

You really want to get your earrings noticed, so I suggest you wear an elegant loose updo like Carrie (if your hair is long enough). An updo is the perfect hairstyle for a floor-length gown as it instantly adds elegance and grace to your whole look.

No necklace! This is super important in order to pull off a plunge neckline. A necklace would be totally out of place here. So remember to keep your neckline bare.

Go Shopping:

  1. Mirrored Panels Bangle ($6.80)
  2. Antique Chic Bracelet Set ($4.80)
  3. Joli Textured Bracelet ($4.80)
  4. Jeweled Petal Ring ($6.80)
  5. Antique Stone Ring ($4.80)
  6. Dangling Leaf Earrings ($4.80)
  7. Native Feather Earrings ($4.80)

Shoes

Going to a prom usually includes a lot of dancing, so you better skip the idea of wearing high heels unless you want to enjoy your evening seated while constantly complaining about how much your feet hurt in those darn shoes.

Instead, go for something mid-heeled, something strappy and embellished like the sandals below. And don’t forget to stock up on foot petals, they’ll be your lifesaver that evening.

Gold Strappy Mid-Heel Sandals - Touch Ups Anneka, Coloriffics Capri, Coloriffics Monterrey

Go Shopping:

  1. Coloriffics “Capri” Sandals ($74)
  2. Coloriffics “Monterrey” Sandals ($68)
  3. Touch Ups “Anneka” Sandals ($60)

Clutch

A simple gold clutch will perfectly top off this prom look. This one below is pretty similar to the one Carrie was wearing (see here).

Hooray, you’re done! I bet you’ll be as fabulous as Carrie in your prom dress. Wish you a great prom night!

42nd Annual CMA Awards 2008 – Red Carpet Fashion

Reese Witherspoon in Marchesa Spring 2009 at the 42nd Annual CMA Awards 2008

Reese Witherspoon is one of my red carpet favorites as she is consistently looking beautiful on the red carpet while not even trying to. This time was no exception. Reese was a vision wearing Marchesa. The Hollywood actress left jaws open when she walked the red carpet in a black asymmetric Marchesa Spring 2009 gown with lace cut-out details on the bodice and a fanned train. The red lips gave the dress the needed dash of color and the exquisite jewelry multiplied with the gown’s elegance making Reese look svelte yet seductive at the same time.

Reese was the “Best Dressed” at the CMAs though I admit I considered Kellie Pickler in that gorgeous Zuhair Murad, too. But in the end the decision was clear as Reese has soooo much more class than Kelly (just look at her leather mini dress).

Carrie Underwood in custom Roberto Cavalli at the 42nd Annual CMA Awards 2008

Carrie Underwood who hosted the 42nd Country Music Awards wore a custom made yellow Roberto Cavalli halterneck gown with a plunging neckline. She completed her look by carrying a gold Nancy Gonzalez clutch.

I wasn’t a fan of either the dress, its color or anything else about Carrie’s arrival outfit. I wished she’d have worn her hair up and went without the necklace as her neckline looks extremely busy here. This is no more than prom queen quality.

Rating: ★★½☆☆

Kellie Pickler in Zuhair Murad Spring 2008 at the 42nd Annual CMA Awards 2008

Kellie Pickler strutted the red carpet in a breathtaking ivory off-the-shoulder fishtail gown by Zuhair Murad from the Spring/Summer 2008 Collection. The curve-hugging dress gave the nominated singer a sexy hourglass silhouette à la Jessica Rabbit earning her an award for the “Sexiest CMA Nominee“. J’Adore ♥

Rating: ★★★★½

Kellie Pickler in a black leather dress at the 42nd Annual CMA Awards 2008

After having such a divine start in Zuhair Murad, Kellie Pickler later changed into THIS to perform onstage. Oh my God! It really hurts my eyes and aches my heart! How could she go from perfectly sexy to oh-no trashy within one hour? It’s like spitting on Haute Couture in favor of wearing some skimpy stripper clothes from some random sex shop. I’m still in shock and don’t know what to say about this horrible disaster.

Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆

Taylor Swift in Kaufman Franco Spring 2008 at the 42nd Annual CMA Awards 2008

Taylor Swift was an ethereal beauty looking otherwordly delicate and graceful when she attended the 42nd Annual Country Music Awards 2008 in a silver crystal encrusted Kaufman Franco Summer/Spring 2008 column dress with a plunging neckline.

I love how she decided against wearing jewelry to allow the dress to shine. This is REAL class. Kellie Pickler, take note!

If it wasn’t for Reese Witherspoon’s stunning Marchesa gown, Taylor would’ve definitely deserved to be called “Best Dressed“. But she’s a close second.

Rating: ★★★★½

Taylor Swift in a Purple Dress at the 42nd CMA Awards 2008

After being so incredibly beautiful in the glittery Kaufman Franco gown, Taylor Swift performed in an eggplant nightmare of an awful prom dress. I wonder if she’s suffering from the same disease as Kellie Pickler?

This outfit is another reason why I haven’t picked Taylor as “Best Dressed” as she is lacking consistency in her fashion choices. I guess she’s been dressed by up by a professional stylist for the CMA arrival and later changed into something she’s picked by herself.

Rating: ★☆☆☆☆

Nicole Kidman in Jil Sander Spring 2009 at the 42nd Annual CMA Awards 2008

Nicole Kidman arrived to support hubby Keith Urban in a black fringed Jil Sander Spring 2009 cocktail dress.

I’ve come to know Nicole as a strong and confident woman who likes to experiment with fashion (remember her red Balenciaga bow dress at the Oscars 2007? Loooved it.) and often hits it just right with her red carpet choices. On this occasion however I was far from being impressed with the BBD (=Boring Black Dress) that is her dress. It lacks detail and passion though I have to admit Nicole still exudes grace and style whatever she is wearing.

Rating: ★★½☆☆

Jewel in Roberto Cavalli at the 42nd Annual CMA Awards 2008

Jewel looked beautiful in a navy jersey Roberto Cavalli halterneck dress which she accessorized with matching gold jewelry and a to-die-for gold box clutch.

While the singer could’ve made more of an effort in the beauty department by glamming up hair & make-up, homegirl still manages to look lovely.

Rating: ★★★½☆

Shania Twain in a Black Dress at the 42nd Annual CMA Awards 2008

Shania Twain chose to go for a flirty black strapless dress which can be easily forgotten. The only things standing out were the super cute Giuseppe Zanotti heels and the bold jewelry which she paired with a memorable silver clutch.

Shania looks good, but I can’t help feeling slightly bored by so much black and lack of details.

Rating: ★★½☆☆

Shania Twain in Missoni at the 42nd Annual CMA Awards 2008

Luckily, Shania made up for her BBD from the arrival by surprising the crowd on stage in a beautifully embellished Missoni column dress. For once, this wardrobe change was for the better!

Rating: ★★★½☆

Miranda Lambert in a Blue Dress at the 42nd Annual CMA Awards 2008

Miranda Lambert is on the necklace trend to pimp up her plain blue strapless satin dress. I like the color combination of the golden necklaces and the royal blue of the dress, but there are 3 things that bug me about her outfit: 1) the strapless dress seems to sit too low on Miranda’s chest, 2) satin is unforgiving when it comes to hiding little bulges (unflattering!) and 3) I can’t help but feeling reminded of Mr. T when I see all the gold necklaces.

Rating: ★★☆☆☆

Jennifer Nettles in a Temperley London Dress at the 42nd CMA Awards 2008

Jennifer Nettles was looking svelte in a black and white trim Temperley London goddess gown. She accessorized her look with a lovely silver box clutch.

Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Party 2008 – Celebrity Red Carpet Fashion

Alicia Keys

Alicia Keys - Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Party 2008

Songstress Alicia Keys not only sported a nice summery strapless floor-length gown, but also some very unflattering deodorant stains under her arms. I can’t believe this could happen to a celebrity? Didn’t she check a mirror before starting to walk the red carpet? Must’ve been an embarassing moment for the soul diva when she found out about the stains.

Ashanti

Ashanti - Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Party 2008

Ashanti often doesn’t seem to get it right when it comes to dressing appropriate for red carpet occasions, so imagine my delight when I saw her wearing this amazing pink belted black satin dress.

This is the perfect kind of dress for Ashanti & it works wonders on her. She couldn’t have done any better. Thumbs up for wearing the pink highlights on all the right places (belt, lips, shoes and jewelry). Gorgeous.

Ashlee Simpson arrived at the Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Party with new red hair and a somewhat tiring knitted gold turtle neck dress. She teamed the dress with nude pumps and a fire-red clutch.

Dita von Teese

Dita von Teese in Christian Dior Spring 2008 - Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Party 2008

Dita von Teese was the epitome of glamour in a white embellished ensemble from the collection. Stunning indeed and a little bit over the top for this kind of event, but that’s Dita. Never been a fan of understatement.

Dita finished off her look with matching white pumps. Her red lips and the black retro curls perfectly contrast with her white outfit.

Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan - Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Party 2008

Wild child Lindsay Lohan showed off her new darker do in a flirty turquoise one-shoulder bubble dress and gold peep-toes. The dress itself is a bit on the boring side, but the color is stunning on LiLo, especially with the dark brown hair.

Lindsay should pay more attention to what metallics she wears with her outfit next time. She chose to wear gold peep-toe shoes, but at the same time accessorized her dress with silver jewelry. I’m not a fan of mixing metals. A total No-Go for me.

Don’t even get me started on the spray tan…

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Rihanna - Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Party 2008

Rihanna is known for taking fashion risks. Unfortunately for her, this printed floor-length gown did not pay off. I hope she does better with her Grammys dress.

Carrie Underwood vs. Kim Kardashian – Jovani Mini Dress

Carrie Underwood vs. Kim Kardashian - Jovani Mini Dress

This sparkling gold sequin mini dress by Jovani was one of three stunning frocks Carrie Underwood wore at the Movie Rocks Awards in Hollywood on December 2nd. Back in August 2007, socialite Kim Kardashian was all glam in the same dress at the Celebrity Catwalk For Charity event.

Both girls wore the dress in a similar fashion, but who wore it better? Kim or Carrie? You decide.
