Mandy Moore, Cindy Crawford and Roisin Murphy wearing the same Preen Spring 2009 dress

Mandy Moore was the first to wear this revealing dress which had strategically placed cut-outs and sheer panels on the bodice to the Vanity Fair Portraits: Photographs 1913-2008 Exhibit back in October last year. She completed her outfit with a gold clutch and black pumps by Christian Louboutin.

Cindy Crawford was the second to wear the same dress 2 months later to a Darfur Fund-Raising Party in London. The former supermodel accessorized with a small box clutch and black pointy pumps.

Roisin Murphy was the latest celebrity to join the row when she attended the Preen Fall 2009 fashion show during New York Fashion Week a few days ago. The eccentric singer who is famous for her edgy wardrobe wore the dress underneath a black cardigan with sheer black tights, black platforms, black biker gloves and a brown leather handbag.

I least liked Roisin in the Preen dress. Her look was too cluttered and the dress was hidden under her cardigan. All in all it just couldn’t stand out which is a shame because the dress is breathtaking. Cindy looked nice enough in the LBD, but I think it didn’t sit too well on her. Mandy was the first and the best. She did the dress justice, it was an unexpected choice & fit her like a glove. A perfect 10!

Katy Perry vs. Alexandra Burke – Who Wore D&G Better?

by Profashionelle on February 15, 2009 · 2 comments

Katy Perry and Alexandra Burke wearing a striped D&G Spring 2009 Sailor Dress

Katy Perry was the first to wear this cute navy striped sequined sailor minidress to the D&G Spring 2009 fashion show back in September 2008. Katy wore her dress with a rosette detail on the shoulder, red lips and a pair of white, red & blue platform wedges from the same D&G collection.

X-Factor winner Alexandra Burke followed into Katy’s footsteps by wearing the same D&G dress to the ELLE Style Awards 2009 a few days ago. The singer wore her dress without the rosette detail and accessorized with a black bow clutch and matching black pumps.

This is a tough decision for me because I really love the dress on both. I prefer the dress as Alexandra wore it without the rosette detail, but I was a bit disappointed with her clutch & shoe choice. Black just doesn’t work with that sailor-esque look and feel. And because I simply adored Katy’s platform wedges, it’s slighty 1:0 for Katy. Do you agree?

Blake Lively – 59th Berlin Film Festival 2009

by Profashionelle on February 10, 2009 · 0 comments

Blake Lively in a soft pink Oscar De La Renta Spring 2009 dress at the 59th Berlin Film Festival 2009

Rating: ★★½☆☆

Blake Lively attended the premiere of “The Private Lives of Pippa Lee” at the 59th Berlin Film Festival wearing a beautiful soft pink deep v-neck gown which had a red sash tied to the waist.

I love the dress, but Blake Lively is making every effort to destroy it with her “I’m too cool for this“-pose. She ALWAYS stands like that when she steps on the red carpet and I wonder why? Can’t she just straighten herself for five minutes? It’s always like she’s going to bend over any moment.

And don’t even get me started on the messy hair. I know this is her trademark, but in a gown like this you need to polish up your look to make it justice. The dress outshines her by a landmark.

Rating: ★★½☆☆

Before Blake Lively attended the premiere, she stepped out for a photocall wearing Vena Cava and Moschino Mary Jane pumps.

This is an OK look for Blake. I’m not hating the black getup, but I’m far away from loving it either. She could’ve ditched the black opaque tights and chosen shoes that wouldn’t clash with her brown wide leather belt, but who am I to give style tips.

Does anyone else see a pretty gross Marc by Marc Jacobs “Alessandra Pussy Bow” dress knockoff here? I don’t even know where to start, it’s such a hot mess.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Alessandra Bow Dress vs. Moniko Claire

First, they got the material all wrong. The original is pure silk while the knockoff version seems to be polyester. They also gave the model that dress 2 sizes too big. See how it just hangs like a tent from her body while it hugs the model’s curves on the left? But the worst thing about it is the messed up bow on the collar. I mean, come on, don’t they know how to loop a decent looking bow?

Albeit looking very cheap the dress still costs freakishly $210. Considering that the original Marc by Marc Jacobs went on final sale at NeimanMarcus for $150, it’s blatant usury. Even Forever 21, where such a dress would cost $30 max, makes better knockoffs.

If you hoped to find a link to the original dress here, I’m sorry to disappoint you. The dress sold out fast after it was seen on Blair Waldorf in Gossip Girl…which directly leads me to…

Blair Waldorf vs. Fergie

… A Fashion Faceoff! Leighton Meester (aka Blair Waldorf) has been sporting this cute preppy dress in the second Gossip Girl episode of season two called “Never been Marcused“.

Fergie did the same by wearing it to a Marc by Marc Jacobs fashion show with…sunglasses…in a dark showroom. Yeah, classy!

BAFTA Awards 2009 – Best Dressed

by Profashionelle on February 9, 2009 · 1 comment

Sorry guys, I know I’m horribly late on the BAFTA Awards coverage, but the pictures just wouldn’t come in. I guess the rain kept most of the paps inside. But I finally managed to get them all together this evening: the best dressed ladies from The Orange British Academy Film Awards 2009. Enjoy!

Worst Dressed are coming soon…. I need a short rest first.

Freida Pinto

Rating: ★★★★☆

Freida Pinto was absolutely gorgeous in a pink strapless gown which had a sweetheart neckline and tiered tulle ruffles allover. Freida injected some Indian pizzazz to her look by adding a colorful Bollywood necklace. Definitely the Best Dressed at the BAFTAs.

Sharon Stone

Sharon Stone in a red John Galliano Spring 2009 dress at the 2009 BAFTA Awards

Rating: ★★★★☆

Sharon Stone was breathtaking last night. In fact, I think I’ve never seen her looking better and am all the more surprised because she’s normally a Worst Dressed regular. But there’s no animal print here, no tackiness, just a youthful Sharon looking fantastic in a fire-red John Galliano Spring 2009 strapless gown.

On a side note: Whatever Sharon takes to stay young, I want the same! Woman does not look a day older than a very good 35 (she’s 50).

Kate Winslet

Rating: ★★★★☆

Kate Winslet played it safe once again, but oh my, she is so owning this black mermaidesque gown. The British beauty radiated happiness and looked amazing in her body-con dress. Love it, but I hope and pray she wears something with color to the Oscars.

Kristin Scott Thomas

Rating: ★★★★☆

Kristin Scott Thomas was a vision in her beautiful colorblock gown which had a black embroidered bodice and a cobalt blue silk skirt. She looked so elegant & classy.

Amy Adams

Rating: ★★★½☆

Amy Adams was also stunning in an electric blue RM by Roland Mouret mermaid gown. The color is gorgeous against her pale skin and red hair and I simply loved her pearl necklace & earrings. The only thing bugging me is that her dress reminds me a lot of Kate Winslet’s gown from this year’s SAG Awards.

Kylie Minogue

Kylie Minogue in a black Chanel Fall 2002 Couture dress at the 2009 BAFTA Awards

Rating: ★★★½☆

Kylie Minogue looked cute and sexy in a seasoned Chanel Fall 2002 Couture dress and gold strappy sandals. A gorgeous dress for her, she looks adorable.

Angelina Jolie

Rating: ★★★½☆

Luckily, Angelina took a step back from wearing loose dresses and gave us something more interesting at this year’s BAFTA Awards. Her Armani Privé Spring 2009 dress was folded on the front and had a neon yellow lining. Angelina completed her look with black satin Louboutin pumps.

Thandie Newton

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Thanide Newton looked great in her black vintage gown which had a tulle overlay skirt and gold stripes allover, but I have come to expect a lot more from her and think she can do so much better.

Emma Watson

Emma Watson in a black Temperley London dress at the 2009 BAFTA Awards

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Emma Watson looked very grown up & elegant in her black Temperley London gown which had a black and white rosette detailing on the neckline. A great look on Emma, but she could use some color next time.
