For the BCBG Max Azria Spring 2009 collection we had a lot of super sexy yet wearable draped dresses oozing modern elegance. Azria’s favorite fabrics – silk and jersey – were heavily used on the minimalistic dresses as well as on the occasional jumpsuit or romper. Plunging necklines, feminine waists, high slits left the folks in the front row astounded. There were a few splashes of bright color like royal blue, raspberry, tangerine and petrol, but the collection’s main color theme was rather dark and muted.
A big plus goes out to Azria for creating a very wearable collection, but I had very mixed feeling about a lot of the outfits, so 3 1/2 stars from me.

My absolute favorite items are the grey draped dress below in the middle and the floaty rasbperry one-shouldered dress down the page which has this odd Versace feel to it.

Bright Colors

Alexa Chung graces the (subscribers) cover of the October issue of ELLE UK shot by Karen Collins. Alexa is wearing my favorite look from the Chanel Resort 2009 collection and I absolutely LOVE it on her. I just wish they would’ve let her wear the chequered shoes that were originally worn with the outfit, but the creatives of ELLE UK probably found them too busy and too distracting for this simple chic editorial.
Here’s a little excerpt from the ELLE interview:
Alexa on Karl Lagerfeld: “I interviewed him, he said. ‘Oh all these people stink’ and then, ‘Not you, I like you, but no-one else.’ I thought, ‘YES! Karl Lagerfeld likes me!â€

This is the outfit from the Chanel Resort 2009 collection as it appeared on the runway worn by the infamous Irina Lazareanu.

So this case of “designer inspiration” is quite interesting. It’s not your typical case of copycatting a la Steve Madden being once again “inspired” by famous designer shoes. This time it’s designer vs. designer. Miu Miu vs. Cesare Paciotti to be exact. Case of subject: the sculpted heel pumps I have first seen in the Miu Miu ad campaign with French singer Vanessa Paradis.
The colors may differ, but the shoe’s trademark – the sculpted heel and the platform are too similar to call it coincidence. So what do you think, who’s been the copycat here?
